This misguided idea originates from a flawed study conducted by Dr. Charles Huggins in the 1940s, which made a correlation between androgenetic hormones and prostate cancer based on data from only three participants. However, numerous recent studies contradict this finding, revealing no evidence of testosterone suppression and a reduction in prostate cancer.

Myth 2: Testosterone Induces Heart Attacks
A study in the medical journal PLOS One mistakenly propagated the myth that testosterone provokes heart attacks. This study observed men undergoing TRT for a short 90-day period and concluded that men with a history of heart disease may increase their risk of heart issues by two to three times. However, this short-term study did not measure red blood cells or estrogen levels, crucial factors that can cause heart attacks with or without TRT. By contrast, an extensive study at the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute found that men diagnosed with low testosterone (colloquially known as Low T) had a significantly reduced risk of a severe cardiovascular event when undergoing TRT compared to those not receiving TRT.

Myth 3: Testosterone Results in Hyper Aggression
It is commonly, yet incorrectly, asserted that testosterone induces hyper-aggressive behavior in men. Surprisingly, the opposite is accurate — men with Low T often exhibit signs of depression, low self-confidence, and may overcompensate by appearing unnecessarily aggressive. Generally, men with healthy testosterone levels do not need to prove their masculinity. An exception to this might be if men take extremely high doses of testosterone in combination with anabolic steroids.

Myth 4: Testosterone Causes Baldness
Baldness is predominantly linked to age and genetics, and not testosterone levels or TRT. This misconception can be dispelled by considering that the majority of men undertaking TRT are older.

Myth 5: Testosterone is Only Suitable for Dealing with Erectile Dysfunction
The perception that TRT is only suitable for managing erectile dysfunction is egregiously misleading. Restoring testosterone levels through TRT can effectively reduce body fat, increase energy levels, strengthen weak muscles, improve mental clarity, combat depression, and boost men's confidence and initiative.

Myth 6: TRT is Not for Women
The idea that TRT is not beneficial for women is a prevalent misconception. Similar to men, low testosterone levels can negatively affect a woman's overall health. It's important to note that a healthy woman has nearly ten times more testosterone than estrogen. Therefore, low testosterone can lead to weight gain, depression, energy loss, decreased libido, muscle and bone loss, and increase the risk of osteoporosis in women.

Myth 7: TRT Will Result in Sterility and Reduced Size of Testicles
Although TRT may temporarily shrink the testicles and cause sterility, these conditions typically reverse a few weeks after the termination of the therapy.

As with all medical treatments, the key to safe and effective TRT lies in working with a knowledgeable medical professional who can administer the right dosage and monitor the treatment's effects. Regardless of the patient's gender, the potential benefits of TRT make it a significant consideration for those experiencing the effects of declining testosterone levels.
